There are various different organizations and associations which you can bring your refurbished hearing aids to, depending on where in the world you live. For instance if you are in the United States Hear Now is one great organization that you can donate your old hearing aid to, and they are part of the Starkey Hearing Foundation. They take the donated hearing aids and have them repaired and then resell them. Then the revenue that is gained from this is used to buy newer hearing aids for those people who are not able to afford them.

If you are in Canada, Saint John Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Incorporated has a program called HARP which accepts refurbished hearing aids, as does the Better Healing Australia organization located in Victoria, Australia. Or perhaps you would prefer your old hearing aids go to help someone in need in another country. Regardless, you can feel good knowing that what would have been nothing more than your trash is going to make a huge difference in someone else's life, someone who is not as fortunate.

When you Can't Afford a Hearing Aid

If you are one of those people who are not able to afford a hearing aid device, then you can go with the previously discussed option of finding a refurbished hearing aid, but there are other options that are available to you as well. One in particular is to turn to a health care spending plan, as this plan will let you take money out of your pay pre-tax. The money is used to cover medical expenses that are not covered by your health insurance, such as hearing aids.

There are also various different organizations which provide hearing aid assistance, as both independent and social services organizations provide assistance in this area. Lions Clubs, for instance, have a very long history of providing financial assistance for hearing aids, either through hearing aid banks or through direct assistance.

The most important thing is to remember that even though you may not be able to afford a hearing aid yourself, you can find assistance that will allow you to buy a hearing aid and treat your hearing problem. And just because one hearing aid is more expensive than another does not necessarily mean that it will better suit your needs. Sometimes a lesser expensive hearing aid will perform just as well as a more expensive one. Have your audiologist make suggestions then shop around for price.
